rhizomation / aggregation

keeping the logic of a rhizome the growth would follow the following rules:
1. all joints connect 3 sides /spines only.
2. no space / area / face can have more than 6 sides /joints
3. adding each new spine splits the existing 2 into 4 new ones.

this logic requires a minimal space to have 3 spines and one joint, and ensures a very rapid growth pattern.

"... Form rhizomes and not roots, never plant! Don't sow, forage! Be neither a One nor a Many, but multiplicities! Form a line, never a point! Speed transforms the point into a line. Be fast, even while standing still! Line of chance, line of hips, line of flight. Don't arouse the General in yourself! Not an exact idea, but just as idea (Godard). Have short-term ideas. Make maps, not photographs or drawings. [...] A rhizome doesn't begin and doesn't end, but is always in the middle, between things, interbeing, intermezzo."

from Rhizome by Deleuze & Guattari

the material below, developed for vitra, reminds me of such notion of a rhizome which is an undercurrent of the project. systemic, emergent, multipurpose, working across scales, without spine (for better or worse), without a beginning or an end.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’s 2004 Algues (French for “algae”) is a biomimetic sculptural system based on a multibranched plastic module that can be attached to other modules with plastic pegs through its nineteen ringlets. Algues may be used to create flexible room partitions, curtains, sculpture, etc.

what is the borderline, singularity, between fantasy and SciFi? is there one?
some give magic as a possible answer, some heroes and dragons,
yet others say magic is science so advanced we cannot understand it yet.
most would agree the difference is vague or non existent.
so how can one do SF but not Fantasy???
is it just a question of how far int the future one ventures?
or is it how boldly one moves against stereotypes...

"Science fiction consists of improbable possibilities, fantasy of plausible impossibilities."
Miriam Allen deFord

if our project has no site, then is our body, human body the site?
in a sense it is.
our bodies, and the hostile environment.
body that has to be protected, clothed, moved, sheltered, supplied oxygen, kept warm & dry, provided with area to interact with others,

as a site how do we approach the body?
as context?
as a place of departure?
as an untouchable taboo thing?

fern/duster

considering the project at different scales got me to research ferns. One of the most interesting aspects of ferns in relation to the project I find to be their fractal quality. Their repeating networks of spines growing out of spines, continually branching out.

another interesting aspect is part of fern's reproductive process when spores are being thrown out into the neighboring space to expand.

some time ago i've worked on a media project which objective was to create a computer model based on nature or art. I decided to resurrect and develop more the intermediate stages that were quite interesting. this was based on a sea creature called feather duster feather duster

here are the images of the maya duster.

oppositions_
-domesticity vs. nomadic cultures
-the issue of scale in case of clothing vs. vehicle vs. house
-the issue of privacy, transparencies
-the issue of function: who is active, who is acted upon?
-wearing clothing, wearing house, wearing a car?

commonground_comfort

vehicle carries body,
body enhabits house,
house embodies clothing,
clothing supports vehicle,

vehicle is operated bybody,
body is hosted by house,
house is clothing,
clothing is vehicle,

systemic approach to the issue,
organic network similar to gerg lynn's blobs, constantly reconfiguring and adopting to the current needs of the user.

clothing providing mobility
vehicle providing comfort
the system/network providing personal zone of privacy/environmental control/

multiple systems/networks swarm to become domestic
